In the Kick for Korrio Photo Contest that ran for almost 5 weeks we called for fans to upload their best actions shots on the field. But these were no ordinary action shots, they had to be of a kick – a shot, cross, pass or punt. The challenge was not only to find a great photo but to get people to vote for it.
Thousands of links were shared as participants petitioned for votes from friends and family.
And that’s just what propelled Ryan’s, aka RJ’s, “Ninja Kick” to the top with an impressive 246 votes.
RJ’s father, John Jackson, explained that he sent out initial messages, texts and phone calls and provided links of the pictures on Facebook to make voting easier. In total they had 51 family and friends like the page, who also networked to get their friends involved!
When asked how RJ is feeling about winning the contest, John said “Ninja Kick” was his favorite and every morning before school Ryan would ask where the votes started at, and when we voted every night he would see the progress. He is super excited about winning of course, but he is feeling the LOVE!!! His face would light up every night when he would calculate how many votes he got for the day. It is Awesome how much support he got!!!”
And support may even be an understatement. If you peruse our Facebook page and read the comments under RJ’s photo and on our Wall, you’ll see words of encouragement like “Kudos, Ryan! Go Ryan! Nice extension Ry-Ry and He is one flying Ninja!”
Ryan’s grandpa Ken Cruz commented, “This will be something he will remember the rest of his life. He’s not a very big guy and is very quiet, but when he’s on the field playing soccer he plays with his heart.”
John explained, “RJ is a defensive midfielder, one of the smaller guys on the field, but plays BIG! He has great ball handling skills, not a selfish player, always looking to pass the ball, and fearless at making tackles.”
He sure tackled this contest with all his heart, and thanks to the support of his teammates (aka friends and family), he has won a $150 Gift Card to Nike which John said they would put to good use on new soccer gear, AND a 4 Ft. Fathead of the Ninja Kick for his wall.
A constant reminder of what persistence and hard work can do for you, both on and off the field.
