Anyone else as excited as I am about the Olympics this summer? Like most of you, I will be glued to the TV to support Team USA as they set out to break records, bring home medals and accomplish amazing athletic feats that even they haven’t experienced yet.
Aside from the thrill of watching the games and events, I’m eager to learn more about the athletes. Who are they, how did they get so good, and what are they like off the field? I’ve realized it doesn’t really matter how old you are, everyone wants to get to know a star athlete. And I’m fairly certain that I will, thanks to the feature stories that have become such a big part of Olympic programming. However, no matter how much I learn from interviews or blog posts, it’s a rare thing to actually interact with them, which is what we all really want.
That’s why I’m so excited about our announcement of US Soccer legend Kristine Lilly as a Korrio ambassador and spokesperson. Her accomplishments on the field are unrivaled – she’s the most capped player in men’s or women’s national team soccer – and she has two Olympic gold medals and two World Cup Championships to her name. There was a point in time where she was an unreachable athlete to many of us, we were spectators as she captained the US team and played her way through a legendary career.
Now she’s on a whole new playing field, and she’s invited us to be a part of it. Retired less than two years ago, Kristine is very active in the game and in the community. She is an Assistant Coach for the WPSL Elite Boston Breakers, director of her Kristine Lilly Soccer Academy, mother of two, marathon runner and motivational speaker. And now, as a Korrio spokesperson, we bring her experience, expertise and insight to you in a way never before!
We’re hosting monthly #SportsLife tweet chats to discuss anything that tickles us in the wide world of sports. In honor of Mother’s Day, we launched the chat with Kristine to provide fans the opportunity to get to know her on a personal and professional level.
She talks about how she got to know Korrio, her induction into the US Olympic Hall of Fame, her activities on Mother’s Day and what it was like playing for the National Team for so many years. Check out a copy of the transcript here (beginning on page 6)!
She sounds like a pretty cool person, right? Bet you want to join in next time. As I mentioned, we’re hosting these tweet chats monthly and your next opportunity to tune in (and talk with Kristine) is on Wednesday, June 27th at 10am PT (1pm ET). This time we’re talking a day in the life of a sports parent. Do you have kids who play, are you a coach who manages parents on the sideline, or are you an administrator wondering how you can create a better experience for your members? This convo is for you!
More details to follow in a future post, but for right now, save the date! Be sure to follow @KorrioSports and @KristineLilly to stay in-the-know.
(Not on Twitter? Not to worry. Visit Twubs.com/SportsLife to create a Twubs profile which will let you join the conversation without having to create another social channel).
